Using an electronic signature on a/p checks

Hi List:

I was wondering if anyone has implemented an electronic signature on thier a/p checks and what methods you have used to accomplish this. Can it be done with a modified version of the a/p check program or only through 3rd party form builders.

Thanks for any input.

Gary,
We utilize a forms software package called OPTIO. We took the signature
and created an image file (don't remember off the top of my head the pc file
type) that is stored on the OPTIO PC server. The image gets mapped into the
form as part of the form design for the A/P checks. SO the whole check is
done electronically - no preprinted checks. We take the JDE checks spool
file and send that over to the OPTIO server to be processed. No changes
needed on the JDE side.

We are using the Bottomline software to accomplish it.

We use the OPTIO AS/400 product called Checkbook/400. With it you layout
the form using design elements to build your check layout. The signatures
and any logos are scanned into a jpeg or bmp file and converted and
transferred into the AS/400. Then the fields in the JD Edwards A/P Check
spool file are mapped with the Check layout and signature on to blank "Check
Stock" using a PCL capable printer with a MICR cartridge from an AS/400
outque. Of course the design, layout, and signature conversion only are
done once for a setup and unless changes occur, like a logo change or
signature change, it runs after every A/P Check run. As a matter of fact we
print the original checks on "Check Safety Paper" and then print a "File
Copy" (yes, signatures are non-negotiable) on a standard yellow paper to
provide a second copy. Works great and is price effective provided all you
want is check printing capabilities.

Gary,

My client uses JetForm to produce cheques (checks) with signature images
etc. Like OPTIO the JDE spoolfile is used by JetForm to produce the cheques
and attached remittance forms.

We use stock stationery (ie no pre-printed info) but it is bank approved
security paper, with the bank specified security printed background for the
cheque portion. The printer used for printing requires insertion of a
special "ink" cartridge so it can produce the cheque with acceptable MICR
processable encoding.

We used IBM's Application Solutions Group to scan the signature and
create a forms overlay that we use to sign checks. There are two lines
added to the DDS for the check print file to add the signature. It was
very easy to do.

It just wasn't worth it to buy the software for one signature. I think
the bill for IBM's service was $150.00, and we got two signatures
scanned and overlays created for that.

Feel free to contact me offline.
