SQL Scalability ...?

Hello List,

We are looking for information on SQL 7.0 sites running OneWorld and SQL's
scalability :

Number of concurrent users?
Hardware being used?
Response times?
Network/Bandwidth being used? (Frame Relay, ATM etc)

On the Knowledge Garden under the WWAT section there is a benchmark but we
need to have a few more please.

Any help with the above info will be greatly appreciated.

Maretha,

We are running SQL 7.0 SP 2 MDAC 2.5 SP1 on NT 4.0 SP6A. We are using Fiber
Optic Disk Controllers to a Fiber Optic Back plane in a SAN. We have 2 Zeon
550 KHz processors with 2 MB cache up gradable to 4. We have GAB RAM. Disk
Caching is software driven on a SAN. If you are going to have 100 +
employees I would also recommend going to a fiber solution. The
justification is that SCSI will deteriorate based on the number of user
connections and fiber will not. Our SQL is separate from our application
server which is something that JDE does not tell you. However, MS white
papers on Enterprise environments tell us that the database should always be
standalone. Additionally for 3 years my job was architecting hardware and
benchmarking databases. If you are a large scale or you are going to become
a large scale company then I would highly recommend separating the database
server from the JDE application server. This way you will have 3 servers.
One is the deployment, one the application, and one the database. Also if
you are going to use terminal servers I would highly recommend using WIN
2000. We have had our Win 2000 up since July and have had to do NO reboots.
It is wonderful. Another anomaly I have noticed is that Heap errors or
Memory errors decrease if you have a responsive network. We have a GB
Ethernet card in our servers going to a switch and out to the workstations
at a full 100 MB. Hope this helps. Additionally SQL 7.0 is very scalable
into the TBs. If you are looking at that volume scalability you will
definitely need to go with a fiber solution.

Hi there!

One of my accounts :

150 users
Netfinity 7000, 2 Gb RAM, 2 Pentium III/Xeon 500 Mhz
8 x 9.1 Gb SCSI Disk on RAID5
Response time : acceptable
