Uninstall ESU

I am trying to uninstall an ESU from our prod pathcode and cannot find any documentation on it. The ESU has been applied and deployed to prod. I was curious if anyone knew of an uninstall method like this or knew of a way to apply a previous full package (that does not contain this ESU) to an application server. Thanks in advance...

Hi ARucker,

Have you applied the ESU to all pathcodes? If not, you can advance the objects from a pathcode which have not been applied with the particular ESU. If yes, you can still advance from Pristine Environment.

This will overwrite the objects with the old specs. For new objects created by the ESU, you can move them to another project first and delete them later on.

You can then proceed to perform ESU Cleanup and ESU Uninstall from the ESU application from Planner Environment.

Thanks

Hi there.

Two things you can try:

1) If the ESU was applied with the "Backup" option checked off then you
should be able to back it out from System Installation Tools - Software
Updates. A word of caution... if the ESU contained a lot of objects then
the backup may not have been complete. It used to be that in earlier
releases of OneWorld (Xe in particular) that if there were too many objects
in the ESU, the backup would only proceed so far and then just stop and
continue applying the ESU. You wouldn't be told that it stopped and that
the backup was incomplete... it would just happen quietly and the backup
would be useless. So this method may not be reliable depending on which
ESU you are removing. If you can do it then remove the ESU and
build/deploy the objects again with the old code.

or

2) Like you mentioned... just deploy the last full package and subsequent
updates that you DO want to the server. Don't forget to synchronize the
fat clients and Web servers. If you are taking it out, you should remove
it from everywhere. This will remove it from production machines but you
will STILL have the code specs in the Central Objects and Deployment Server
pathcode. Subsequent builds of those objects would still be the ESU
version. You would have to promote unaffected code from another
environment as Samuel had suggested or restore from backup. Can you get
this code from a machine that has NOT had the ESU applied to it?

Regards,
Gerald.

Don't forget that ESUs also make DD, UDC and menu changes, table conversions, etc. So, once the specs are restored, you should visit those other areas in case they were also updated by the ESU. They will need to be "cleaned up" as part of your over-all ESU recovery.

Hi Everyone,

If we uninstall an ESU and restore it from backup, Will the backups restore the custom codes changes to an object (if it was done) or it will revert back to any latest code changes applied previous but not custom.

It depends how you apply ESU. if you do Project promote then you already know about what wkaauamo said and there is some fact below when you do project promote and you can rollback changes accordingly.

1. If you are using separate copy of Data dictionary tables for DV and PY and ESU has new DD item introduced in it , those changes will not be applied.

2. If there are records introduced for control Tables such as Menu/UDCs , those will not be updated.

3. One Major Drawback, the esu grid will not show PY or PD against esu, which is misguiding. So ,it will be an overhead to maintain documentation that the esu was promoted and not applied.

Thanks

Thanks Adeel. Points noted. We might go for a roll back. So these points should be taken care.
