8.9 vs. 810

Hi list, we were on the road of upgrading from XE SP 19.1 U5 to 8.10 Tools release 3, but all test we have done on our sand box have been unsuccessful (beginning with the enterprise server cd corrupted ). We have a "brother enterprise" that upgraded from XE to 8.9 and it seems it was very smooth...

The question is:

Do you think going to 8.9 instead of 810 would be a good idea, or do you recommend to keep trying with 810.

Thank=B4s in advanced..

Greetings

I'll vote E810 any day of the week.

It's, generally, the best Unicode release so far, it seems.

8.10 - or 8.11, if you have the ponies in your shop.

Keep an eye on Oracle's Fusion too. My notes escape me, but I thought that 8.11 and 8.12 would have direct upgrade paths to Fusion (and you don't have to big-bang fusions - just install the parts you want when you want).

Thus - if you don't want to do too many upgrades in the next eight years - consider 8.11

Dbohner is correct. 8.9 was a 'quick' release put out by PeopleSoft the instant they aquired JDE. Not the most stable. 8.10 is better, but you will not be able to upgrade directly to Fusion (so they say now). This statement was made by Oracle, in my own personal opinion, to persuade, without forcing, customers to upgrade NOW, because their pipeline is slim and they could use the consulting dollars for the 8.10 to 8.11 or 8.12 upgrades. Fusion is still an IDEA, but never the less, that is Oracle's CURRENT position regarding migration.

Now, if you users aren't currently web based, if you go to 8.11, you will have to force them to be. 8.10 still offers the luxury of having development or citrix clients while slowly integrating in the web solution.

Regards,

Thank's to all...

Even we still have problems, we'll keep trying 810. 811 is not a choice
to us because all the infrastructure needed to make it work.

The attached white paper released on 13th May 2005 by Oracle ,also seems to stress the fact that there is no direct upgarde path from Xe to Fusion. Pls refer to page 17 in particular.
