Disaster Recovery testing scenarios

We are on E1 8.9 and are discussing ways to test our backups to make sure we can perform adequate disaster recovery. We are running on Oracle database 9.2.0.4. Items to test for recovery include:

- Deployment Server
- Enterprise Server
- Oracle database

We currently do a full system backup weekly with E1 services and the Oracle database down. We also do hot backups nightly using RMAN.

Does anyone have any comments on methodologies that work well for testing recovery for these (and any other) components?

Thanks in advance!

You could always take a first pass test and restore selected directories.
The next phase would be to find an empty server and just attempt a full restore.
But, the ultimate test would be to show up at a remote site with a handfull of tapes and try to bring up the whole system.
It certainly is not cheap but it would be thorough.
Take really good notes so you can review them for ways to better your recovery times.
In our experience, the first 15 to 20 hours were spent just restoring tapes. Some disaster recovery sites will start that process for you.
It is long, tiring and expensive but it is truly the only way to "know" you can get the system back up with only a set of tapes to work with.
