Xref Build

Hi List,

When I kick off the Xref build for all objects it immediately goes to 'D' without doing anything and leaving any output, if run on the server. Is it normal? I tried to run it locally on one of our 4-processor NT stations and it has been working for 2 days and still running. So far, it has created 310 pages of output, 275530 records in F980011 and 1264976 records in F980021. Someone please assure me that the end is close or I'm gonna go nuts about this process and kill it.

Thanks in advance.

Hello DIlchenko,

It took about 20 hours to build full Xref for "pristine" Development
envinroment for me. (that was on weekends, so network was almost
unloaded).
Xe SP13,
Ent: MS-SQL7 SP2, WinNT4/SP6, 2xPIII-700, 1GB RAM, 100Mb network.
Workstation: P500/256Ram
100Mb network.

I'm not sure how much it will take on Oracle, but on MS-SQL database size for Xref is about 7GB.
It seems to me that number of pages should be less than 1000, so you
are close to the finish.

Regards

Yaroslav

Just a reminder to check the jde.log periodically where it is running. If there is a space problem (maxsize, etc.) with the Oracle tablespace, you may see "fail to insert" error message stanzas that are seemingly endless.

Dmitry,
You may kill it; it is painful, but the standard approach is run it for an object type, at a time (and that time would be a weekend or whenever your system has some space to stretch itself out).
The longest is going to be (yeah you got it) the APPL type.
But, let's ask ourselves again, do we REALLY need ALL that Xref? Aren't we shooting a bird with ... a canon?
And we know that, a few weeks of development later, you'd have to do it, again; the more complicated or extended development, that many objects to get affected, therefore the need to Xref THEM, again.
Can't beat'em? Can't join'em? Compromise them!

Hello all,

Thanks for your suggestions and comments. I'm now a happy owner of a 486-page report, 1.3M records in F980011 and 3M records in F980021. Oh, and jde.log can be loaded on only one CD (646Mb!!)... Lot's of fail to insert messages, _all_ of them due to primary key violation, so I presume it's ok. The cumulative size of everything is around 3G, running time: 90 hrs, partly on weekend.

All the best,

Dmitry Ilchenko

Hello Dmitry,

Have checked for DV7333 pathcode.

F980011: 1,690,437=20
F980021: 2,398,846

So as far as I can see you got a long way to go. Check the list for =
specifics on the Cross Reference. Have you installed the ESU for Xref =
build. All Crossreference runs locally so to be sure add an OCM mapping =
for the cross reference.

Best regards,

Walter
