Column Security

Dear List,

Does anyone know how the "Add" Y/N works for Column Security? I secured out a field on a Form (Contract Start End Dates in W1721A) by making it Add = Yes, Change = No & View = Yes. When I logged out and then in I found I could not add a Date when I was adding a new Contract.

How is the "Change" feature meant to work on this sort of form? What's the point of it? I just wanted to allow the Users to Add a value but not change it, but I guess this isn't possible because the system cannot decide when an add turns into a change! Any ideas?

Thanks.

I don't know about column security, but from row security, a user had
to have add and change to be able to perform an insert. If the user had
add, but not change, they could not perform the insert..I suspect it is
the same way with column security. If you think about it, I guess it
makes sense, you are making a change to the table (an insert)....
