Relationship between SO and WO

When creating SO with line type 'W', its creates SO in F4211 and
WO in F4801 and at the same time RORN of WO contains SO no. of
F4211.While, when creating SO with line type 'S' and after that
executing MPS gross regenration(through Periodic Processing) and
Process Mesage (through Daily Processing) its generates WO no.in
F4801, and RORN of F4801 contains Blank value at this moment I
want to know how to pick th SO no. for RORN of F4801 from SO
F4211.

Clients requirement is to know -

- WO against SO,
- SO against WO,
- OR against WO and if delete SO, automatically delete WO also.

For the above requirement, before customisation I want to know the
relationship between SO and WO.Pkease guide us, how to go through.

The only way I am aware of to link the WO with the SO is to use line type W
on sales orders. This will create a 1 to 1 relationship between the two.
By using line type S and generating MPS, if there are more one order for the
same item with the same request date, the MPS message will be to create one
work order to cover the requirements for both sales orders.

If you are using line type W and you delete the SO, then the next time you
generate MPS you should get a message to delete the associated WO.

Thanks for the reply.But in our scenario we want to use MPS to plan our orders.So we cannot use line type W.But still the client wants to have a SO & Parent WO & Child WO relationship.Is there any way out?

Well Devin is correct in what he says... the issue you are faced with is
having one WO number (hence one related number field) ... and two different
Sales Orders that created the demand for it... It sounds like you would have
to build a custom table to cross reference the two if you had to have it
that way.
