Registry exports for Disaster recovery

Greetings,

Im currenty looking at ways of duplicating our current JDE setup on another
site for a disaster recovery project.
Rather ran installing JDE from scratch I'd like to export registry entries
from the Deployment and Enterprise servers then simply restore them along
with tape backups of all our packages etc on the Disaster recovery site.
Has anyone had any experience of this?
I know its not a good idea to export the entire registry to another server,
maybe exporting just HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE will do it?

Any ideas suggestions would be appreciated,

Regards,

Mark.

Mark, without knowing anything about your environment, I don't know how to go about making suggestions on this issue. What kind of ES, DS, is there a seperate APP server, version of JDE, SP, ES Operating system, etc. Please provide more detail.

Mark's response to me:

We are on B733.1 SP11.3 The deployment server and Enterprise server are
both Windows NT.
Our current setup has 4 Report servers although on the Disaster recovery
site we are only going to have 1 Deployment server and 1 Enterprise server
(this will run all the reports and hold the Oracle database (8.1.6) )

I have a tape backup of the JDE drives from the Deployment and Enterprise
servers that Im going to restore onto the recovery servers but I need to
have the registry entries for these servers aswell.
Ive already exported all the keys on the Enterprise server (there was about
30 of them) but theres laods on the Deployment server so I didnt know when
to do the whole HKLM key?

Thanks,

MArk.

You said the enterprise and deployment servers are both NT based. Are your disaster recovery servers identical to the productions machines? If so, why not do a parallel installation of NT to say Wintemp instead of Winnt. Install your tape software and do a full restore from the Enterprise and Deployment servers. Fast, clean, and you don't have to maintain anything except the backups which you already maintain.

Mark :

I've done your experience with Deployments on NT Server and it was a
disaster. I prefer to have a blank NT Server + DBMS Client + C++ +
Adobe server ready, when crash occurs I install CD1 of OneWorld (to
get JDE Registry settings and licencing) and then restore B7333 share.
You'll also need to restore ODBC.INI registry key.
Intel Enterprise is pretty much the same but won't need to reinstall JDE
from CD, you just restore pathcodes, DBMS, databases and rerun jdesque
and jdesnet.
