Thin vs Thick performance

We did some simple tests (from clicking OK to create a simple purchase order to having the screen back ready for the next one) and found that thin client was consistently a few seconds slower than thick even when other activity on the terminal server was minimal.

Has anyone done any similar comparisons? Is this an expected result?

Thanks, John

Yes, in a LAN it is to be expected: normally, thin clients offer improved performance only in WAN scenarios.

There may be other reasons for using thin clients in a LAN: ease of deployment, potentially improved security, client PC specs, etc.

Alex.

I don't know if it should be a few seconds slower, but, it may be slower.

This makes sense since many of the business functions are mapped to another server. The "W" environments have the added overhead of network communication with the functions on the other server. In a phat client these are run locally.

Try logging into a non-"W" environment on the TSE and compare the times. They should be faster than the "W" environment.

I tried Thin both mapped and unmapped. It didn't make much difference..
