CSV Output

Hi

I have 2 questions on CSV output from Oneworld UBE's.

1) Can all reports be defaulted so that they all generate a pdf as well as
CSV output ?

2) Has anyone encountered a situation where certain columns do not export
to CSV although they are on the pdf ??
We are experiencing this and have discovered that moving the column around
randomly within the UBE makes it re-appear. However we do not know why this
is happening !!

Our system dumps a pdf file to the print queue folder whenever we run a csv default report. The pdf file does not automatically popup in Adobe Acrobat. I am not sure if it is our setup or not (XE 19.1 on SQL 7.0 & 2000).

I have encountered the same problem. At a JDE class, it was recommended to set the Grid Alignment spacing to 52 horizontal and 8 vertical and place only one field in each box. This seems to work for us.

We have found the best way to get reports in CVS format is to actually create the UBE to output to CVS that way you get all the columns and they are formatted correctly.

Hi Robert,

To answer your questions:

1. The best answer to this question is no, as a general rule you can't have
both working properly(if it will work right in both is dependent on the
alignment as well as the length of the data being retrieved). In theory, you
can have the report generate both CSV and pdf output. However, in my past
experience, some reports will show OK in both pdf and Excel, but some
reports will have some columns in CSV disappear or missing data(this is
because of columns overlapping in CSV). The way to ensure all your columns
will be displayed in CSV is to make the Grid Alignment 52 and place only one
field in each column (this way you will always get all the columns - and
they will be formatted correctly). Your pdf might look pretty bad, so what I
used to do was to create reports especially for Excel(you could create
versions for .pdf and versions for Excel, but I wouldn't recommend that).
2. Yes, I have seen this behavior - please see explanation(and solution)
above. The fact that it started displaying data when moving columns around
it was... well, luck:) (Pretty much when you moved columns around, you made
it so that they don't overlap - that's why you got data).

This suggetsion always works for me as well - 52 width and 8 height, one item per box. JDE recommends designing a version specifically for CSV output when you desire it for this reason.
