BAC\'s

Hi,

We are at version A7.3 cum10/Client Access Version 3 Release 1 Mod 3

We have recently set up BAC's payment processing using completely standard
software. We create the bank file using the program P04572B. When the
file member is downloaded Client Access strips off the trailing spaces
which are required by our bank's software (it ignores records which don't
have a record width of 100 characters, and the last field on the record is
a variable width field).

We have also tried creating a folder on the AS400 and using the CPYTOPCD
command, and then importing directly from the AS400, as well as downloading
using Reflections software.

At the moment we have a work around which involves manually right aligning
the field (Acct description) in the bank account file F0030 to 18
characters. This field is the one which appears last in the bank file
record. By dong this the bank file records always have a width of 100
characters. It works but is painful for inputting purposes and prone to
error.

Is anyone aware of an easy way to get a file off the AS400 with the
trailing spaces intact?

Thanks,
Suzanne Main.

Re: BAC\'s

If you have any programmers why not have them automatically Right adjust that field.

In the Data Dictionary you can also specify Right or Left.
I don’t know how this would work for this particular field but it would be worth a test.
A code of R indicates that the numeric field is to be right justified and zero filled. A code of L indicates that the field defined is to be left justified. So what would happen if you have a code of R and an Alpha field??

Either that or have you tried just using FTP to move the file off the AS/400 instead of client Access?

Re: BAC\'s

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions,

Unfortunately the field in question is DL01 which is used all over the
place so I can't change the definition. We don't have any source here, and
hence no programmers. Also don't appear to have FTP.

Any other thoughts...

Re: BAC\'s

eeek

no source (shudder shudder)
Guess you can tell I am a programmer.

What type of file are you making with the File Transfer?
I have had to "Convert" some Access databases to the AS/400 and when I exported that access database I would have to export to a TXT file and then done "Fixed width". it solved that type of problem. You could try taking that file you download into access and then re-exporting it.?.

Unless you have some Windows type programmers??

Re: BAC\'s

You can solve the problem with the truncated blanks at the end of the record fairly easily. Open the file transfer and click on the Details button next to the output file name. Then click on the Details button next to the file type drop-down box. You can then de-select the option to truncate spaces from the end of records. I don't know why they hide this option so well. It drove me nuts too, till I found it.

Good luck.

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion, but we don't have that option in Client Access,
I guess we're running a old version or something.

RE: BAC\'s

Suzanne,
What OS400 Level do you run under? The update for Client Access are updated
through the cum levels. You have to run the service pack under Client
Access, for any changes that get updated with the operating system updates.
Your Client Access service pack is run from the PC to the AS400 and updates
the software on the PC. You then get the most current version of Client
Access from the AS400. It will also require you to reboot the PC for
changes to take effect. You can also under Client Access set it up on the
PC for every so often have the PC check for new service packs and if there
are at different levels, it will ask you if you want to update the PC Client
Access software. This may be all you need to do to get the latest version.
Who ever installs your PC Software should know this also, so they can set up
all your PC's for the service pack. Whoever loads your AS400 OS should let
that person know that a new version of the operating system has been loaded,
so they can update CA on the PC's.

Confused? If so email me directly or give me a call and I will be glad to
explain it to you.

Re: BAC\'s

We are using Client Access version 4 release 4 which has the option to turn
off Truncate spaces from end of records.

To get there, select File for PC Output device and click on Details, then
in File Details select ASCII Text for File Type and click on Details. This
brings up the ASCII File Details with the option to turn on or off Truncate
spaces from end of records.

Hope this helps,

Re: BAC\'s

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, but we seem to be on an old version
of Client Access and unable to upgrade due to having a CISC box. We will be
moving within a year to One World on a different platform, so for now we
will just have to live with our work around.
