Hi everyone,

I would be glad if someone would help me understand the logic behind the various modes used in the
Preference profile Program for Sales , EDI etc. The Program is P40400 and if any one has gone through an in depth analysis of that piece, do respond to this . Would appreciate an answer ASAP.

Thanks

Joseph

Hi Joseph, you may or may not already be aware there is a white paper available on preference profiles (available from knowledge garden or support line). It's generic stuff, but helps explain a little differently than the manuals. We
currently use the 'product allocation' piece, although there is a ton of others there that we haven't touched yet..

There are two P40400 in the system - a Dream Writer (DW) and a RPG
program. The DW is not used by RPG program P40400 but instead it used by
other programs, such as P4211. The RPG P40400 is a generic program which
handles preference record retrival for all preference profiles. Each
preference profile is kept in different table, such as:
F40301 Preference Profile - Payment Terms
F40302 Preference Profile - Unit of Measure
F40303 Preference - Revenue Cost Center
F40304 Preference Profile - End Use
F40305 Preference Profile - Print Messages
F40306 Preference Profile - Inventory Sourcing
F40307 Preference Profile - Product Allocation
F40308 Preference Profile - Grade and Potency
F40309 Preference Profile - Delivery Date
and more . . . .

How preference work:
1. Activating Preferences:
- Preferences are activated within a DW version of P40400.
- Attach that P40400 DW version to Order Entry (P4211) thru. Processing
Option of P4211.
- Order Entry (P4211) calls Preference Processing server (P40400) and
process those activated preferences one at a time.
- Example given, preference '07' (Product Allocation) is activated in DW
P40400 and that version# is indicated in Proc Opt P4211. P4211 passes '07'
to server P40400 in which table F40307 is accessed based on '07'.
2. Locating Preferences:
- The server P40400 figure out the right combination of Customer
Number/Group or/and Item Number/Group based on the hierarchy setup (in
menu G4231) which then used to locate Preference Profile record in the
table.
