Safety stock and planned dates

We have some manufactured items that we'd like to maintain a safety stock on. However, if we set the safety stock value, then as soon as we go below that level, MRP generates an Order & Expedite message, with a due date of today. We like the safety stock concept, except that we'd prefer that the order due date be today PLUS the lead time. This would then generate and Order message, and wouldn't also load up past periods in our CRP work center loads.

Any ideas how we can get safety stock so that it doesn't demand the items today?

You can use your Item/Branch Freeze Fence Days to ensure that the system
doesn't plan any orders within x days. The Freeze Fence will ensure that the
Request Date for a planned order to meet any requirement will be at a
minumum the Generation Start Date + Freeze Fence Days. This is commonly used
if your Delivery/Manufacturing Lead Times cannot be squeezed (expedited). In
this example you would set your Freeze Fence = Lead Time Days.

Note that this is not demand specific - i.e it will not distinguish between
planning for stock levels falling below safety stock or planning for other
forms of demand like Customer Orders, etc....

Hope this helps,

Craig

Craig,

This looks VERY interesting! Thanks for your suggestion -- we'll be trying it out and I'll let you know if this will work out for us. Thanks again!
