naming conventions in data dictionary

According to "knowledge garden" the custom defintions desired format is:

$XXXX (whereby $ is special character and "XXXX" is a 4 characters picked
by the customer)

However, we've had heard that JDE had plans to start using the $ in their
own data dictionary and sure enough we encountered this in upgrading to XE.
This where a custom data dictionary definition had the same name and
migration tool dropped ours). So it wouds seem JDE developement is using $
and is no longer reserved for custom entries as denoted above.

Is there an updated list/document to review to see what maybe an alternative
to avoid this "collision" down the road?

Curious.

My understanding was that the convention for custom DD items should be: Y55XXXX. I read this in documentation somewhere. Some of our consultants simply used 55XXXX during our implementation. Of course, some of them did whatever the heck they wanted to, and I have a feeling we'll end up with collisions later. ;-P
