RES: Moving an object off B7332 and onto Xe

There have been a few sugestions how to accomplish this task. Here is
another one, quite simple but working well.

I suppose both systems, B733.2 and Xe, are connected through a LAN or WAN.

In B7332 create new Data Source, call it Central Objects - TRANSFER (or
anything else) and point it to your actual XE-Dev-Central Objects database,
table-owner DV7333.
Still on B7332, in Pathcode Master, create a new Pathcode TRANSFER, using
Central Objects - TRANSFER as Datasource. On your B7332 DS, create an EMPTY
pathcode directory structure with the same name.

Now all that needs to be done is to create an empty object in Xe using OMW
and checking it in, just to get the OL registers. The object should have the
exact name as the object to be transfered. Then go to the B7332 P98604
Object Tranfer Programm and simply transfer objects from any pathcode to
TRANSFER. In case of tables or BSFNs, copy the involved .C and/or .H files
from \B733\TRANSFER\include (or source) to the respective DV7333 directories
on the Xe-DS.
Transfering over a WAN can be quite slow in case of large objects.
In some case, we have used P9864 Record Copy to copy the OL registers,
instead of creating empty objects with OMW.

This method can be used in the opposite direction, Xe to B733.x, as well.

Thanks, Gerd

Hi All

FWIW...

We had a load of trouble getting Product Packaging to work in B7332 - it's
riddled with problems in this version.

When we moved to Xe, Paul Clark used the method he described to move our
B7332 development to Xe without a hitch. We've never had a problem.

Regards
Terry
