Base Price

What are the advantages/disadvantages of maintaining base price in the Base Price File (F4106) versus the Price Detail File (F4072)?

Hi 'Akaiser'

Base prices are (almost) mandatory and the base price system gives you a tool to set up reasonably straight forward pricing rules. The F4072 table however is only used with advanced pricing. This allows you to set up more complex and specific rules.

Just a little comment on this post and future posts:
Could you please provide us with your system configuration (whilst this question is not really configuration dependent, most questions are) and with a salutation name, so we don't have to start with "Hi Akaiser"

Re: RE: Base Price

akaiser,

Go to Edit Profile, Basic Profile, and add your configuation into the Signature information section. That way, it always appears at the end of your post. Thanks.

hello,
Base Price is the basic price in which an order is to be entered. The sales order picks up the these prices from the p4105. The 4072 is the advanced pricing. This can be used if you want to give discount based on qty offtakes or for any other purpose. This will be calculated based on the base price which come on the sales order. So the difference is base price is mandatory and advance pricing is based on the base price.

Alice, this is an excellent question, and something we cover in the Mastery Level Workshop on Advanced Pricing. It is also in the updated version of the Workbook, which is available stand alone.

Basically, the main advantages of using advanced pricing for the base price are:
1. All prices are in the same file, for reporting purposes.
2. The users only have to learn one interface for pricing.

I always use Advanced Pricing for my base price, except for certain circumstances where the Base Price file is the better choice. One example is if you need to base a formula calculation (such as a commision equal to (base price minus $25.00) * 1% on the base price, then you need the base price in the Base Price file.

I believe you already bought the workbook, and we are in the process of making electronic updates available and will let you know in about two weeks when you can download a fresh copy.
