Watermark in JDE 9.0

Dear all,
I am updating an existing BI Publisher for Contracts (based on F4001Z) and the request is to add a watermark anytime where the UBE is launched in Preliminary Mode.
So I passed a variable representing the mode value. OK.

Now I'm trying to add (or not) a watermark according to the value passed... and I'm failing.
I have followed the code mentioned in "Watermarks and multicopies" topic, but when I'm adding a Watermark with text <?wMark?>, the report crashes.

Does anyone has any idea about how to do it ?

Could it just be you are missing the $
e.g <?$wMark?>. $wMark is a variable.
