Hello there

I am new to the ESU, I would like to know the following, I ran Change assistant and come up with the following ESU for Canadian Year End.

1. JK21104
2. JK21069

I downloaded and will be deploy in DV to test first.

1. Just wondering do I need to run the special instruction? I noticed the special instruction is for USA in JK21104 so I assume I don’t need to do?
2. If above two ESU has prerequisite do I need to look the special instruction for those prerequisite?
3. Do I need update package or full package to deploy on DV?
4. What happen if I apply ESU and something goes wrong there is a way to rollback?
5. Where to look whether the ESU is applied successfully?

Tool 8.98
Release 8.12

Thanks

Hi,

1. If they're for USA then they don't apply to you.
2. Yes, you also have to look at the special instructions
for any prerequisite ESUs
3. Given the large number of objects, better to run a full
4. When you apply an ESU, there's a "backup" checkbox
to save the objects that will be modified by the ESU.
5. At the reports R96701 and R98700 (once the ESU
installation is finished)

Thanks for the feedback

4. When you apply an ESU, there's a "backup" checkbox
to save the objects that will be modified by the ESU.
How about rollback the special instruction? I believe we have to be careful when we do rollback of ESU as because if i do special instruction e.g creating index, table generation. I bave to rollback all the special instruction?

5. At the reports R96701 and R98700 (once the ESU
When i run the report R96701 I can message called.
"Local submission is not supported from skinny batch version/menus. I than tried frp, fat client does not even run.

Hi,

5. ESUs are installed on the Deplomyment server logged
to the Planner environment (JDEPLAN or PSFTPLAN)
There's no Web environment here!

UBEs R98700 and R96701 will be launched locally on the
Deployment (automatically by JDE) right after the
ESU installation is finished.

4. Yes, to be precise, you should also rollback
the special instructions

Thank you Sebastian

Last question. If our payroll is good, do we still need to apply the Year End ESU's. Is it mandatury?

Thanks

Hi

I don't know. I don't have functional skills.
You should ask a Canadian Payroll application specialist
or contact JDE.

I don't know if they're ever not needed so we apply them every year regardless (we're on ERP 8.0). Usually there are changes for the T-4s at least. And if you use Vertex then sometimes an ESU is required in order to update Vertex.

One more thing we might want to take into consideration, when 'considering' foreign-based ESUs.

'What If' your organization does go multi-national in the future? If your organization is always current, always correctly configured and is thinking 'bigger than themselves' - it allows for a lot of opportunities to occur with considerably less effort.

Hypothetical Example:
Two Companies. Both are strapped for time/resources and do business like all the rest of us (dollar short and only 27 hours in a day).

Company A never takes the time/effort to impose any of the multi-national ESUs. Their Industry is Space Craft Parts.

Company B Always takes the time/effort to impose any considerable multi-national ESUs. Their Industry, Also Space Craft parts (though a bit smaller than Company A)

Inter-world Organization, "UniVersal" is looking to purchase, or partner with, an organization to develop craft for inner-world travel.

They glance at Company B, first, but pass on them because the are small (not enough volume for the projections).

They look at Company A and get all giddy... then realize that they would either have to spend two years migrating Company to Multi-National ERP or migrate Company A's system to their own (essentially, buy them out)....

UniVersal goes back to Company B and makes the following Offer:
"Since you already have the ability to resources us 'TODAY', without any true adjustments to the way you do business - We would like to invest in your ability to manufacture parts in the volumes we deem necessary to meet our projects". Essentially, they are buying manufacturing facilities for Company B!

Simply - if your organization isn't thinking big (Considering Multi-National), then Foreign organizations or organizations that work with or third-party to the Foreign will consider alternatives before investing in YOU.

Think BIGGER than your Organization is TODAY!

I Agree Doug, we have same environment with vertex as well but using application 8.12.
I just kind of wondering what is the best time to wait for ESU and apply as end of Feb T4 must go out and we wanna make sure all the ESU are in place.

Thanks

We normally apply the year-end ESU as early as possible before the end of December. It usually becomes available early Dec, and we test it in the PY environment, then apply it to PD just before Christmas. For vertex we apply the update right on Dec 31 (data updates).

This year there were additional baseline and prerequisite ESUs and the actual year-end one did not become available until quite late and was also superceded by an even later one in January, so we ended up having the final versions in PD at the end of January but that's the first time it's gone past Dec 31st for us.

Unfortunately we're municipal government so our fiscal year end is Dec 31 too just to make things more exciting.
