Platform Change Debate

Hello Folks,

I am fast approaching a platform crossroad and need some advice...

I am currently operating in a Windows/SQL environment running 8.10. We are in the process of upgrading from 8.10 to 9.x during the first half of 2011. In addition to the 9.x upgrade my concurrent user count will be approaching 500+ user mark. Are there any environments that are at the 500+ concurrent user mark that are on Windows/SQL? If so how has the experience been? I am trying to figure out and understand whether I should be look at moving over to Linux/Oracle to accommodate this user load. Is Windows 2008 R2/SQL2008 R2 a worthy platform for 500+ concurrent users?

The E1 architecture is based on a physical 2 node cluster with fiber channel storage coupled with virtualized batch and logic, and web servers.

Thoughts, advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
Dave
