ODBC Database Link FailedDid you check for the Datasource mappings on =
the enterprise server for the Forieghn datasource, if its specific to =
the user, then what i would is to check their user profile and do they =
have access to the external database.

Subject: ODBC Database Link Failed

Hey all,=20

I was wondering if anyone else is getting this error and what can be =
done about it. I know that Thin clients do not have any ODBC mapping. I =
am having about two user that are trying to access the the address book =
to run a query using access and they get the following error

"ODBC-----Connection to JDE Data Base Link failed",=20
Does anyone have any clues.=20

RE: ODBC Database Link Failed

I am guessing that you need to setup a Data Source for MS Access to connect
to the SQL database/install.

Re: ODBC Database Link Failed

Bladi-

Do you have MDAC 2.5 installed on all NT clients and servers, including
Citrix/Terminal servers? What service pack are you running with SQL Server?

RE: ODBC Database Link Failed

Bladi,

My guess is that you don't have translation turned on? Your ODBC mappings
to the thin clients do not use mapping, JDE does that for them - within the
application (it makes I/O faster to not map). I am guessing that you can
link to the tables, but can't read them?

You need to create a new ODBC connection - doodad - point it where it needs
to go (copy from the other mappings), then make sure that translation is
turned on.

Let us know if this makes any difference...

I should read what I send... corrected...

JDE doesn't use TRANSLATION (I, in error said mapping).

Re: RE: ODBC Database Link Failed

We experience the same problem in our operational system (through Terminal Server) : a connection trough the ODA driver is succesfull to retrieve the business views, but once we try to retrieve data we get the error that the connection failed. I tried out the hint you gave to create a new ODBC connection, but I cannot find where translation should be turned on ...
I also have the demo-junior installed on my PC. If I try to get data there, everything works out fine ...

Re: RE: ODBC Database Link Failed

Frank,
If you go to your Data Sources in the control panel and configure you system
DSN you will have a translate tab. That is where you can set to translate or
not.
