How much faster?

Hi

Could you try to estimate how much faster will be server 1 than server 2?

Server 1 (option a):
8203 Model E4A , P10
1 processor 4,2 GHz Power6
8 GB RDIMM
6x140 SAS on 1,5 G RAID Controller

Server 1 (option b):
8203 Model E4A, P10
2 processor 4,2 GHz Power6
16 GB RDIMM
6x140 SAS on 1,5 G RAID Controller

Server 2 (current):
model 520, P10
1 processor 1,9 GHz Power5
4 GB RAM
4x140 USCSI on RAID

We have about 70 users on JDE World (and now working on server 2).
I thinking if switching to server 1 will be "visible" in efficiency?

skorek,

There are far too many variables for anyone to give you any advice on this topic. You need to minimally use the IBM workload estimator through your IBM business partner to determine the improvements. If you want a detailed estimate, I suggest using a consultant or firm that specializes in such.

I specialize in performance tuning and sizing, in addition to other skills.

Like Ebearman says, it is hard to give a definative number of performance improvement.

In looking at the configs, in theory you will have better performance - more arms, faster processor, more memory. However, what are your bottle-necks now. If you are not constrained in any of those areas, you may not see any visable improvement because that is not what your problem is.

You really need to run performance analisys on the old box and see where your issues are to see if the new box(s) address them.
