CTL3D32.DLL ERROR

Hi List, When doing a client install the first time the install
works fine. However, when re-installing the workstation
they get ctl3d32.dll error messages. This is only a problem
with NT clients. Win98 client workstations work fine.

Thanks for the suggestions

Did you install any other s/w between the initial install and the
re-install?
The answer is probably yes.
CTL3d32 is one of those DLL's that helped coin the phrase "DLL Hell".
The reason is that this is one of the few Microsoft DLL's that require
different versions depending on whether you are running Win 9x or NT. In
other words the version to install is operating system dependent.
Install/setup programs that are not aware of this will cause problems such
as you describe.

Solution is to unregister and remove the offending version and try again.
Uninstalling the s/w that installed the wrong version won't help because
install programs typically do not remove shared components such as this.

Good Luck

Re: RE: CTL3D32.DLL ERROR

You can bypas the problem by placing the DLL not in the system32 dir but in the same directory as the executable you use to start up the program (check the dependencies of the DLL with Quickview (right mouse buttont or a DLL tracker, it is possible you need to place more DLL's in the exe dir). Change the unattended setup of the client.

Install MDAC 2.5 on the workstation.
