How to send shipment data to the railroad in E8.12

Hello List,

With E8.12 Transportation and Sales modules, are we able to send shipment
data to the railroad carrier immediately after shipment confirmation?

Can we tell the railroad carrier the ship-from location/branch plant, the
destination/ship-to name and address, who is billed for the freight, who is
billed for the second freight if the railcar crosses the border to Mexico or
Canada, etc.? The railroad won't move a railcar until they have certain data
and we would like to automate the process.

The EDI advance shipping notification ASN functionality seems aimed at the
customer, not the carrier.

Can we do this without the Procurement applications? We often do not pay
the freight on a shipment.

Would Workflow be more trouble than benefit?

Hi Russell,
Our carriers CN & UPRR use the Transentric process, where we ftp (to Transentric) a couple of files every day (two in text and one in csv format).
Shipment info (including railcar, and seals IDs) is written into these files by three UBEs. All these jobs are executed by the E1 Scheduler. The file transfer is executed by a .bat file (scheduled in Windows).
As you see, nothing fancy, just basic development involved for a couple of days!
