Data Replication

We are looking at replicating data from the USA to Australia. Can we replicated the total system or just certain tables. Currently we do not have an WAN to this site. We are on Xe System i and DB2 data base.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Everything is possible when you have unlimited resources.

However, on the real world I find it will be quite
expensive to replicate AND keep updated a complete
Xe install on both USA and Australia. We're talking
about hundreds of Gb on data and objects, quite a
large mammoth to move across 20000 km (12500 mi)

There will be WAN bandwidth and latency issues which will
cause you some painful headaches.

I don't know the number of users you have, what modules
you're running, the size of your database and the kind
of WAN link you're looking for, but we're certainly
talking about 100-1000 Mb of inserted, modified and
deleted data per day.

How often do you need to replicate? Do you need both
databases to be replicated on a realtime basis?
Or is just once an hour, a day or a month?

And a deeper question : why do you need to replicate?
Is it for disaster recovery reasons? If not : have you
thought about Citrix or Web access for your users?
