Hello,

I am trying to apply the PPT on my Deployment server but was unsuccesful, everything went fine and was given a message as successful. But when i tried to check the applied PPT by running the P96470 application i am unable to see the PPT there in the list which i have applied. I have also tried to check the Registy file too there i could find the PPT which i have applied but could not see in the Software Updates (P96470).

Any kind of suggessions would be appreciable.

Thanks

Hi Indra,

I assume that a PPT is a special kind of ESU or ASU,
am I right?
If so, you have to copy the setup file to some folder
(outside the JDE share), but locally in the Deployment,
decompress it locally and then log to JDE on the
JDEPLAN/PSFTPLAN environment.
From there, you'll have to apply it to one or many
environements as any other ESU/ASU.
Don't run the ESU/ASU install with Remote Tools, they
tend to be quite unreliable (though some are better
than others!).

Regards,

Thanks for your response Sebastian,

I am getting an error saying that the ESU is already been applied and is not recommended to apply it again. Can u please let me know why am i getting this error . And i have clicked on OK and continued to apply the PPT but i could not see the update in the Software updates.

Hi Indrasena,

The are three main steps for any ESU installation :

1. Run its setup.exe, according to your attachment
you just did it. What does it do? It just decompress
the .EXE into several //deployment/xxxx/planner folders.
You may run this step again if you feel it was not
correctly decompressed, it's harmless.
2. Apply the ESU. You have to log to JDEPLAN or PSFTPLAN
environment and apply the ESU to one or several
environments. I won't go into detail, there's nice
documentation on Oracle site on how to apply an ESU.
This step updates your Central Objects and C Sources
with all the new code from the ESU.
3. Build an update or full package and deploy it.

By the way ... you're NOT decompressing and applying
the ESU via remote tools such as RDP, NetMeeting,
PCAnywhere, AREN'T YOU???
They're quite unreliable for JDE ESUs.

Have a nice day and good luck!

Hi,
There are 3 different types of updates:
1. Electronic Software Updates (ESU)
P98740|ZJDE001

2. Application Software Updates (ASU)
P98740|ZJDE002

3. Language Updates
P98740|ZJDE003

Depending on your update type, you'll have to choose the respective version. For example, you can't see an ESU if you're using the ZJDE002 version and so one...
If this does not apply, what kind of update do you want to install?

Hello,

I am connecting to my deployment server through MSTSC, this is used to connect the systems remotely. U mean to say is it not advisable to connect remotely and apply the PPT server??

Regards

Hi Greetz,

I guess it should be P96470 for software updates.
there is no application with P98740. hope to see your response on this.

Hi,

JDE clearly states on the installation manual that
you should not use ANY remote tools (including MSTSC)
to apply ESUs, ASUs, run installation workbench,
spec merge, data conversions, etc.
To me, the most natural choice would be to fully
support RDP on Windows and Deployment server, though it's
not the case, it's quite unreliable specially for ESUs,
ASUs, Upgrades and Table Conversions.
So far, the most stable of all remote tools I've used
on Deployment Server was NetMeeting though MSTSC runs
pretty well for packages (not for ESUs though).

I can't stand the suspense any longer: Will you please explain what the acronym PPT means? I've been doing this JDE stuff for almost 7 years, and I've never seen that one before.

Sung to the Disney song "When I See An Elephant Fly"

I seen an Software Update
be called an ASU
I seen a service pack called an update too
But I been done seen about everything
When I see a PPT

I seen an update
usually by those 400 heads
be called a PTF in a book of red
But I been done seen 'bout everything
When I see a PPT

I heard once that TAM files were in the past
And they tell once that oracle gonna trash Oneworld first
I didn't see that, I only heard
But just to be sociable I'll take your word

I heard a oneworld crash
And I saw some worldvision trash
And I thought that Ed's terminal would never die
But I been done seen 'bout everything
When I see a PPT

So next time you ask on JDE List
make sure your acronyms ain't full of sh*t
'cos most claim we're experts in CNC
an' none of us ever seen a PPT
....

HI Bill,

Product Packaging is the ability to master and package a group of ERP 9.0 objects. It provides customers a mechanism to move objects from Central Objects and Control Tables from one location to another. PeopleSoft business partners can use the Product Packaging Tools to develop and market software modules that are based in ERP 9.0. In addition,
customers who modify ERP 9.0 can use the Product Packaging Tools to deliver changes to other locations within their company that are not directly connected to the central enterprise.

The Product Packaging Tools manage the task of mastering ERP 9.0 software. In this capacity, the tools oversee the entire mastering process from defining a software master to
mastering the CD. The tools start with the definition process, where the user provides as much information as possible up front. After the user enters the critical information, the tools provide a batch process to validate the software mastering information before mastering.
Next, the tools provide a batch process to master the software. Finally, the tools provide a batch process to validate the final software master image.

For further info. please go through ra oracle site, there is a very good document on PPT.

This is not to defend anyone. But i remember something as a PPT in world software. 'People places and Things' was the full form for those horrible messages/email software which ran on the AS/400 without any security and then JDE came up with security on that. If you remember the world screens and email waiting messages flashing. This was long time back but i might be mistaken.

Yeah, to apply PPT on a deployment server is complex stuff.

Indra,

Thanks for the clarification. I listened to the wrong shoulder angel and I thought it would be amusing to guess what the acronym meant. No offense intended.....
Although, I still think that you misused the acronym: PPT is not what you were trying to apply, but what you used to create what you were trying to apply.

I find that I get more useful responses from posters when I don't use acronyms or qualify what they mean up front....

Now I just got to figure out how to get this elephant song out of my head. Looking Dumbo up on Youtube didn't help.

Taking the words "Product Packaging Tools" and making your own acronyms out of them is really not professional, and it is certainly not going to help your issue with the JDE Listers out there.

So, be a good "chap" and edit your post - so that everyone else on the planet can understand what you are referring to.

By the way - ERP 9.0 doesn't exist yet - its due to be launched in 2008 according to Oracles latest news.

Product Packaging has been around since the beginning of JDE - but its a pile of crap. Its always BEEN a pile of crap, and it will always BE a pile of crap.

Thats why Boomerang and other replacements for "product packaging" exists.

Lastly, the resulting "package" from using Product Packaging is actually referred to as a Custom ASU - not a "PPT".
