Questions about Citrix

Most of our users are on a fat client. We do use a few Window Terminal Servers.

We have users outside our firewall and they have a Citrix server setup. This server is not being utilized as much as we would like it to be. I'm not familar with Citrix so I have some questions.

Is setting up OneWorld to run on a Citrix box the same as setting up a WTS?

Does the Citrix server only use one license like the WTS?

Are there any issue with Citrix, for instance on the WTS you can't print locally? I assume this is true with Citrix.

Any information on this subject would be helpful. Thanks in advance for you help.

Hi Sully,

Setting up JDE client on a Citrix Server is pretty much
the same as on a Windows Terminal Server box.
However, Citrix is more flexible to publishing apps,
providing load balancing (assuming you have 2 or + boxes),
you can print and save files locally on your Citrix
clients, adds encryption capabilities and its ICA
protocol is more bandwidth efficient than RDP.

Patti, here are some thoughts

I would be very wary about allowing users outside the firewall to access JDE. At a minimum, they should be on a secure VPN.

Exactly the same.

Technically, yes. But you still need to account for all of the users in your license count.

Citrix handles printing much better than WTS. It’s one of the selling points of Citrix
