Central Objects Migration NT/SQLSVR to iSeries V5R2

Hello List,

Currently, our Central Objects database resides on an NT/SQLSVR machine. Our Versions, System, Server Map and all other enterprise server components reside on an AS/400. This 'split' decision to separate Central Objects was made prior to V4R4 and the support for Binary Large Objects on the 400.

We are now looking towards consolidating this by moving our Central Objects back onto the AS/400 and off of NT/SQLSVR.

Our management is concerned that this change will inordinately elongate package build times near to 24 hours for a single full package build as this was their experience prior to placing Central Objects on NT/SQLSVR. Build times for full packages have been significantly reduced since then. I suspect that the longer build times were the result of other underlying configuration issues that have since been addressed. My iSeries experience suggests that there should be minimal change in build or execution times across platforms with no noticeable change

And so....we turn to the JDEList community - hoping to ensure that we've not missed anything. So.....List...would you please advise us on this? Your help will be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help, Beta.

The answer is a resounding "no".
It depends on the size of your AS/400 - but an 820 takes about 6-8 hours to perform a full package build, which should be very much in line with the build you're seeing with central objects on SQL.

If you have gigabit connectivity between the AS/400 and the Deployment Server, you should also see package build times pretty low.

You could not place central objects on the AS/400 prior to V4R5 because of the 32k BLOB size limits in DB2/400. JDE created a "workaround" solution to that - which increased times CONSIDERABLY - but you will not have to do this procedure anymore. Just move your central objects to the AS/400 - everthing will be fine !

Thank you so much for this response. It is certainly appreciated. Thanks again, Beta.
