Pointing a fat client to a Test Partition

We just created our Test Partition on our 400 and restored all of our data. Now I would like to point 1 or 2 fat clients to this partition instead of our Prod Partition. Is there documentation for this? Has anyone done this before and is it difficult to maintain?
