RE: Business View association

As of B733.1 you definitely did have to "trawl" through each and every
association. ---but what else did you have to do today?

Re: Business View association

Yes.

Hi All,
If I change the business view name associated with a Report, do I need to
trawl through each and every ER in that UBE and re-associate the business
columns? Is there no 'refresh' button.

TIA

RE: Business View association

From what I know, there is no 'refresh'. You changed the business view and
you lost all your fields.

RE: Business View association

A little cheat that I have found is to select all ERs in the section, copy
and then paste over them. Those that have been affected will be disabled
and you can then address only those rather than the whole lot.

Steve,

I often use copy/paste ERs although in a different reason then changing the BSVW.

My experiences are that OW not always resolve the references correctly everywhere, where OW do not notify you by disabling or with inserted comment. For example you see A=B (in the ER designer and/or on the printed ER) in the pasted line but when you open it then you will see A=C or D=B or D=C.

I always revise all pasted lines opening all by double-click and correct them when neccessary, always check all parameter mapping in BSFN calls, always re-map all interconnect calls, sometimes re-map all Table I/O, but generally to be on the safe side I re-create Table I/Os instead of paste and re-map.

Use carefull copy/paste ERs and always revise the result. You can spare a lot of time of bug hunting.

Zoltan,

You are of course correct. I had forgotten about the BSFNs. I always check
these out. I have never experienced the single line ER problem you
mentioned though.

Steve.

Re: RE: RE: Business View association

Steve,

The single line ER problems generally do not occur when you copy/paste from and to the same form, inside the same event and there wasn't removed/added variables, BCs, FCs, GCs, etc.

It occurs for me almost always when I copy/paste:
* in the same place (appl, form, event) but between OW releases
* between different applications or forms
* between events and event scope variables are also effected
* etc.

When my custom mods/developments use custom variables, controls, etc. then I always add them before copy/paste and I try to add them in the same order then originally.

In the mentioned situations very hard for OW to evaluate the references in the pasted ER lines. Sometimes OW evaluates them but incorrectly. You can see the mistake only when you open (double-click) the line. Be careful.

Zoltán
