FDA - how to modify Search Criteria to trim search fields

How do I go about taking a field such as ANI, which is primed on my custom window, thru a form interconnect, and trim the field so I can pass it thru the search with the field trimed.

I am using a headerless detail and cannot figure out where exactly where the code needs to go also am not sure exactly how to code it either. This custom window is used for display only. Peoplesoft suggested I look at P0101SL for "Alpha Name" for sample code. I looked at it but I do not quite follow how it works. Any ideas.

Answering your question, there are "rtrim" and "ltrim" functions (Text category) in the Expression Editor of ER Designer.
