Hello All....

Inventory Question in OneWorld XE

I would like to delete a short item number (inventory item) from a Branch Plant

When I attempt this I get an error message "record not avaialble for deletion"

Error Message Received........

Record Not Available for Deletion

CAUSE: The item requested for deletion may not be deleted for one
or more of the following reasons:
1. Item Branch record still exists.
2. Cross reference information exists for the item.
3. Item exists as a bill of material component or parent item.
4. Item has an existing routing record.
5. Supplier/Item relationship exists.
6. Price records exist if price level is a '1'.
7. Item exists on an active sales order.
8. Forecast records exist.

These items are not used any more and are not attatched to any sales or inventory transactions etc.....

I would like to cleanup our available inventory items by eliminating old items which are unused

Would I be better off just making these short item numbers "Obsolete" and "Non-Stock" - or is there an easy way to delete these items that I am not aware of

I cannot get any input on this issue from fellow employees using OneWorld

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks...............

Pave the World. In world the Long number is what the users use. If the
you where not afraid of history just change the long number in the part
master and Part balance. I would only do this if the short number had
been Obsoleted for a period of time. I do not think the system will
reuse the short numbers ever.

By deleting you may have data integrity issues on old orders and/or transactions. I vote for obsoletion (if that's even a word)!

Re: RE: Delete Inventory Item from Branch/Plant

I have to disagree a bit with Fred Hargett. What you use for the default item number is configurable. In our World, it's the short item number.

If you read the Second Level Text behind the error message 0286 - Record Not Available for Deletion - it will give you the 9 criteria that need to be met in order to delete the item. Typically there's a price record, forecast record, BOM, Sales Order, or something out there with the item in question on it.

If you really want to delete it anyway, without satisfying the 9 conditions, World has a program, option 18 on menu G41311, which will remove the item from all files. It has a couple of "chicken switch" check points, and it tells you how much you're going to have to adjust your GL if you proceed.

Thanks for the advice.........

I have noticed that your responses refer to "World"

I believe I have posted to the wrong forum - I should be in Enterprise One (One World XE)

Once again - many thanks for your responses..............

Assuming you have met all the criteria and still have thje error, you might try running the 'Average Cost Update' program (06/G4123) which will remove any opdd remaining costs and should solve your problems. Works in World but I don't have OneWorld infront of me to test this second and see if same applies! James
