frequency of restartin E1

we are currently running E1 8.9 with tools release 8.93D1.
we restart the JDE service once a week. we notice that from stats we keep we can see that event lag increases during the week but then drops once JDE has been restarted. Oracle recommends restarting daily but this is not feasable due to the design of the system. we have several other applications with interfacing using Webmethods into JDE. to restart JDE is not as simple as running the End and Run oneworld scripts due to the dependancies of these other systems.
we suspect there may be some memroy leak or caching that increases the lag.
has anyone had experinece and found any solutions

The tools release you're running has several known memory leaks along with the base release of 8.9 applications. We have applied countless ESU's pertaining to memory leaks and performance issues within various business functions. Reliability is much better than it was prior to applying those specific updates, it can only get incrementally better as we apply the rest of them.

We're running HP-UX on one server (around 600,000 batch jobs per month), HP-UX on another (webMethods only) and AIX on yet another (XML based function calls from DSI) and we can keep both up and running for more than a month without a restart. Seeing that we have a regularly scheduled monthly outage, I can't tell you how long they would really stay up without a restart. If you can break your batch processing away from webMethods specific business function calls, along with segregating web client logic (if not running fat clients in non-J environment mode), you'll be much better off. If you are already doing this and still have the issue with memory leaks and performance degradation of time....

A list was published in 2004 and has been periodically updated to reflect the specific ESU's you should apply as soon possible. You can also use the Change Assistant to search specifically for "Memory" or "Performance" related ESU's.

Hi,

Oracle is suggesting (since a few months ago) to install all
of their ESUs (!) to improve performance and stability.
It's not an easy job because there are several hundreds of
them, but at the end you'll notice performance and
stability gains.
On the other hand, Tools 8.93D is quite old and, in my
humble opinion, it'd be a good idea to install a newer
tool such as 8.94 or 8.95

Regards,
