Application Servers

Hi
Do many people out there use Application Servers and what specs do you
have? eg CPUs, Disk Memory

We are on B7331 with 30 concurrent users and 60 deployments (all fat
clients) and are looking for similar sites to compare with.

Our AS400 is too small and we need to take some of the load off until we
upgrade to Xe and can get a bigger box.

Thanks for any info
Kieran

Kieran,

I have one app server (Compaq 6400, Dual 733 with 2 Gb of RAM, 36 Gb of disk
space). I run 90% of the UBEs here. I will be installing at least two more
in the future. Each manufacturing facility will have their own app server.
Right now I have about 40 concurrent users. By the end of next year,
probably 80 to 90.

Hope this helps.

James.

Do you run UBEs on the server? If not, an application server won't help
you. If you do run UBEs on the server, the server load reduction cannot
exceed the CPU cycles created by the UBEs since the database accesses will
still flow to the server. You could determine the actual improvement by
running all UBEs on the fat clients for a day and measuring the difference.

Hi!

My typical box Application Server box is :

2 Processors Pentium III/Xeon 700 Mhz, 1.5 Gb RAM, 2 disks 9.1 Gb using Raid
0+1.
It just contains a pathcode a optionally a small local SQL database like
JDEB733 on the Enterprise Server (300 Mb).

Yours, Sebastian
