Does anyone have any information on migrating from Progress Database to OneWorld or E1? My client is considering doing it on AIX w/ Oracle Database.

Thanks,
Matt

We are undergoing this process at this very moment!!

Was there anything you specifically needed help with, or methodologies in
general?

Best regards,

Re: RE: Progress Database to EnterpriseOne?

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your response. We have not begun the migration yet so I do not have any specific questions. Any information that you could provide regarding the methodology and the process would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

RE: RE: Progress Database to EnterpriseOne?

Hi again Matt.

For a start, we have the luxury of a fantastic set of integration tools
calls Sonic E.S.B. Integration Suite. To be brutally honest, without the
abilities of the ESB and the brilliance of the Progress 4GL we would be
having a very tough time.

Phase One of our integration involves "Z" table integration only. We
basically have services that monitor tables that require integration both
ways. These services provide generic controls, reporting, notification and
performance monitoring. They were mainly written using Progress. (We have
a policy of no modifications to E1 (8.11), so if anything requires changing
it's going to be the Progress & legacy side). So far so good. The
integration points are working so well that we will be using them for
conversion as well.

Phase Two will require some components of real time integration. Toolset
8.94 has not provided anything simple to enable this kind of integration.
We are not java experts, however it looks like the dynamic java connector
might provide the appropriate avenue. We are also looking at the Web
Service Gateway in 8.95 as a possible solution, however the consultants
involved have been somewhat intimidated by the size of the manual &
complexity of the installation. (It seems counter intuitive to me that it
should be so difficult to invoke the XMLCallObject routines, but we haven't
really crossed that bridge yet).

My ultimate goal to be able to "wield" E1 via real time integration points,
and to deploy friendly, streamlined applications via PDAs and other mobile
devices.

This obviously a very broad outline of our strategy. Let me know if you
need anything further!

Best Regards,

Steve Cutbush.

Steve,

Your information has been very helpful in providing some direction. As usual things are now delayed. I'll know more about what I need to know once the project picks back up again.

Thank you for your assistance,
Matt Valva
