Routings w/multiple options. JDE A7.3 cum 9

This is my first ever post to any forum so thank you for your patience. What is the best way to establish routings for products with multiple options in the manufacturing process? Can a master routing include all options w/o capturing all the labor on those occasions when some options are not selected? Example: Manufacture a vehicle with AC installation labor (or any other labor step to build a car) included in the master routing, yet omitted when not requested by the customer.

Hello,
This sounds like the perfect use for the JDE Configurator module. In the configurator you set up the options that get entered or selected from a list at order entry time. Then you would have assembly inclusion rules where you tell it which component parts get added from your master bill of materials and which routing steps get added. You can also include rules about how to price it based on the selections. As far as costing goes, P30410 would generate your work order and perform a mini cost roll-up on the configured item by adding up only the standard cost of the component parts actually used and the labor costs of the routing steps that actually got entered.
This is also tremendously helpful by reducing the workload on your engineering department when you create very complicated customizable items and you normally have your reps or application engineers frequently ask engineering if your customization is physically possible. You can build in rules that would know what parts fit together and which would not. Assembly exclusion rules would say that if you picked <this> selection it would add these set of parts and rules which would mean that you could not add <that> other option.
Now the trick is to get JDE to automatically create a new item master and branch plant record if your selections will create a new version that has never been used before or pick an existing item if the same configuration was selected. A73 doesn't do this as it stands. If this is of interest, e-mail me and we can talk more.
