first I apologize for using your legitimate question as an excuse to indulge in humor.
Your post listing specific questions is a good start on what should be in a FAQ. Unfortunately no one on the JDEPeople list has yet attempted to compile a E1 FAQ. Perhaps as you get get answers to this questions you would be willing to author such a document? I'm sure one of the forum moderators would assist in publishing a FAQ once it has some value in it.
Here's my one contribution to question 1:
The GET button in OMW when used replaces the current local specs on the workstation with specs from database Central Objects (using the current path code) or replaces local 'C' BSFN source files with the same files from the current Pathcode on the Deployment server.
