Upgrade to EnterpriseOne from Xe (version question)

I am trying to confirm if you can upgrade from Xe to EnterpriseOne 8.10? I have heard that you must go to version 8.09 first, then to 8.10? Can someone confirm this for me based on your experience or insight?

Thank you for the response. This account would like to use 8.10 to learn E1. So I was actually thinking it would be better to install 8.10 then do a data only upgrade from Xe to 8.10 (using their production Xe data).

Any holes you see in that approach?

Have they done any customizations?

Minimal customizations and they have them all documented. They are using 8.10 to learn E1 so if they don't come over it's not the end of the world.
