JDE designed the system in such a way that it prevents you from
performing any changes (updates) to the net without bouncing it. (In
early 1999 they also had it designed so that only one UBE of the same
name could be running at one time!!). Try to coordinate with all users
to bounce the net when BSFNs mapped to the Enterprise server and batch
jobs being submitted by many users and interactive applications are
being used at 15 to 100 locations around the country. All of your eggs
are in one basket.

We re-worked the single net design with the help of JDE and now can do
about anything we want whenever we want to any of our nets, of which we
have about 20.

Things may have changed in the years since we did this, but, quite
frankly, it is disturbing to see people still trying to run a shop while
being constrained by the single net restrictions.
