Row security

Hi everyone,

Im trying to set up security for our customer service users and I cant seem to get it right.

I set up Row security for this partucular user profile. The limitation I wanted them to have was to block them from making NEXT status code changes on the F4211 table.(ALIAS NXTR).
now the problem is that when they go into a sales order and want to change anything else on the screen , eg. qty's or unit price, and the sales order happens to be at Next Status 540 (which is what I blocked them from changing under Row security), it will not let them do that.
now my question is, that if I jsut want to limit them from making changes to the one field (NXTR) what security type would I use?? Thanks for you help

Shazza,

That would be column security. See the attached file for an example.

Hope this helps,

Karry

Sounds like you want to use column security on the NXTR column - that would
let you change the other values of the row, but not the status itself..

Re: Row security vs Column security

Ok. That will work if I dont want them to change the NEXT status only. But there is one more part to this. I want them to make changes to only certain Next statuses, eg. 540 and 533, but not any other status. Can I do a combination of row and column security? which one proceeds the other?

Yes, keep the column security on NXTR, then you will not be able to =
change
the status. Then also use row security so that you can only change the
values for certain statuses. We use a combination of row and column =
security
on certain tables ourselves.=20
As for the hierarchy of the row versus column, I don't know off-hand. =
I
would have to test it to see which gets compared first..
