PDF Attachments on Citrix

We can attach .pdf's as attachments (e.g. P01012) on a fat client but fail on Citrix servers with "Unable to start source application for this object" error. Word and Excel work OK.

PeopleSoft got the same error on a Citrix server but claim that "Acrobat reader is not an OLE registered object and that you need to purchase Adobe Exchange". Anyone come across this before or know of a fix?

We are able to attach a pdf file in P01012 through a Citrix Connection, and
it works fine. Do you have Adobe Viewer installed on your Citrix Server,
and do you have the Windows security opened where the end user can connect
and open the Adobe Viewer?

Re: RE: PDF Attachments on Citrix

Hi Joy,

Thanks for resonding. We have Adobe reader installed on the Citrix servers and it works fine when users view the PDF output from batch jobs.

Re: RE: PDF Attachments on Citrix

Joy,

This is still an issue for us and was wondering if you could possibly share some information about your server setups? We have just had a new server built, Acrobat 5.05 installed and security opened up but still get the same error message - unable to start the source application for this object.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: RE: PDF Attachments on Citrix

Did you install Acrobat Reader using Add/Remove programs on citrix ?

You might have to reinstall Acrobat to ensure the file association is recreated.

Graham:

Hope this helps.

First we have our Media Objects setup with a common location for all of our
end users. We created a Windows folder named the same as we named the Media
Object Queue. Example - Accounts Payable, Contracts, Purchasing, HR,
Payroll, etc... Then we granted Windows security for the appropriate
groups, i.e., the Windows Group AccountsPayble is granted rights to only the
Accounts Payable directory and Purchasing is granted rights to only the
Purchasing directory.

1. Log into JDE via a Citrix connection.

2. Run a Report

3. View the PDF file, which puts a copy in the user's Y:
drive location under the PrintQueue directory.

4. The user moves the PDF file to the correct common Media
Object directory. Example move file under the Accounts Payable directory

5. From inside JDE go to the place where you want to
create the attachment.

6. Click on Attachments then File / New / URL/File and
Browse to the correct Media Object Queue location. Example Accounts
Payable. Then select the file and click ok.

7. Click File / Save & Exit.

8. When you are opening the attached PDF file click on
open this file from its current location.

That's how we do it........

Re: RE: RE: PDF Attachments on Citrix

Joy,

Many thanks for that information. We had started looking at this method as our plan B but your solution offers more flexibity so we will go with that.

I had originally been trying to attach the PDF as an OLE to save the user the trouble of copying to a different location but PeopleSoft claim that PDF as an OLE is not supported.

Thans also to Jon for his advidce.
