MORE CATEGORIES CODE FOR ITEMS

Hello,

We need more categories code for items, I think to create a new amplification file of F4101 and other of F4102.

Somebody know if there is a standard solution or another better idea.

the standard set of category codes allows for about 10 for sales and the same on the purchasing side. How many are you after and why do you need more than 20?

If you get really pushed you could use some of the other fields as a mechanism for categorisation, description 2 of the UDC, special handling code of the UDC, create a tag file (e.g. F4101T) or deal with the whole reporting issue through a BI solution. I've seem all of these being used.

In fact, the "good" solution depends really on your need in the system.

You can, for example, consider the use of the "Supplemental Data Base" defined with P00091 et P00092. This gives you the ability to define any new code/date/notes for any item in F4101 and item/branch in F4102, based on your specific category codes. The data entry and consult screens are included in the standard.

P00091 lets you define the data type to use for Item and Item/Branch, while P00092 (using a processing option) is made to enter codes/dates/notes for an item or an item/branch (or an address book or whatever you want ...)
