Xe -> 8.9 Installation

Hi

We are looking to install 8.9 on new hardware seperate from our existing Xe Enterprise. However we have custom Xe developments/data we need to load into 8.9 ideally via Product Packaging. I know its possible to load ASUs created in Xe onto ERP8.0/B7334 Enterprises with some manual intervention so can this also be done with 8.9? After speaking to Peoplesoft, though they do not support the concept, they feel it can be done in theory though the ASU access database would need converting to MSDE format somehow and the Unicode standards for data and bsfns would also need addressing.

Has anyone therefore any idea how to accomplish the required conversions or give an insight into the tools within 8.9 to do such conversions?

Product Packaging cannot be used to achieve this with any amount of tweaking - the specs have totally different formats, which cannot be tweaked, unlike the database format, which probably could.

We have a commercial solution to this issue, though - a software tool called Boomerang.

If you are interested, please, contact me directly via email.

It is possible to upgrade to a new release while implementing a new set of hardware. It requires a bit of tweaking during the plan creation but I've found it to be the best alternative to get custom mods and data over onto a new set of servers during an upgrade. Contact me if you like more detail. Good luck.

I would concurr with Alex. His tool, Boomerang, allows the transfer of objects between Xe (or any B733 version) through to EO 8.9. This means that you can install OneWorld on a seperate machine, and manually transfer the objects across, instead of having to perform the spec conversions in an upgrade - and finalizing the "upgrade" with the data-only upgrade that is in the Peoplesoft Documentation.

There are a number of tools that are similar - but I believe that Boomerang is the only product that transfers objects between two different versions of OneWorld (EnterpriseONE).

This method of upgrading is not only much more controlled, and is risk-adverse, but also allows for continued development in the "production" Xe environment while testing continues in the EnterpriseONE environment through a seperate sand-box installation.

You can either find Alexs' tool at his website (http://www.pastuhov.com.au) or via the US Distributor - The iConsortium - at http://www.theiconsortium.com.

Boomerang is definitely not the only product available to transfer
objects between releases.

BackTuit, another commercial solution that is XML based, can be used to
capture objects, versions, versions with spec overrides, and specific
sets of data from all related tables. (i.e. a single inventory item
definition or address book entry) They have also addressed the spec
format change from B7332/Xe/ERP 8 to 8.9/8.10
