Fax solution

Hi,

Anyone out there using Captaris RightFax with their EO/OW implementation? How was the implementation? Did you have to build all the scripts or were there some built for EO/OW already? Does it integrate well with your forms package (assuming you have one), like FormScape?

If your not using RightFax, what solution are you using and what do you like/dislike most about it?

We're currently using an iSeries based product called FAXCOM by ESD Computer Solutions. It queues the fax documents and sends them to a Biscom fax server. The whole system has been pretty rock solid. In fact our Biscom server is this old Unix box sitting in a closet someplace. We all forget about the system, it just works. However, calling API's to send our FormScape documents to FAXCOM is not so convienient and our company is calling RightFax a best practice.

Thanx much

Doug,

I tested RightFax with FormScape 2.4.2 at a client. It worked well but was fairly pricey when compared to Zetafax (the other FormScape-recommended product). The software only supports fax boards and not fax-modems. Captaris has a position paper which explains why they feel this makes sense. The argument is that a fax board transmits faster and results in less connection time and eventually pays for the added hardware cost.

In the end we went with an email based fax service. It was more cost effective when compared to telephone charges for the same volume of faxes. (This install was in Japan where commercial fax services are widely available, reliable and are generally cheaper than analog telephone line costs)

In order to use an email based fax service we generate PDF's from FormScape and send them to the fax service as an attachment. We started using this as our own poor-man's docs archive service and used the Microsoft Index Server to index our PDF store. It has proven fine for their needs and avoided the cost of FormScape's "docs online"

Yip .... Works like a charm for us. We have OneWorld generated PDF's
going through FormScape which is automatically then sent to the Right
fax server to be sent out e.g. month end statements to clients. The
implementation takes some planning ( like everything else ) but not too
pain full. We use both FormScape and RightFax systems for over 2 years
now and have proved to be solid.

Doug,

We've used RightFax since day 1 (B73.3.1) with Optio as the Forms s/w. Even though our versions of Rightfax typically lag behind "current" versions we have had zero problems using the s/w with Optio.

Sounds like a winning combination. Is it difficult to build the bridges between the forms package and the RightFax document translator (forgive me if I'm not using the right terms)?
