RE: OW database data sources

The client uses the ODBCDATASOURCE.inf file on the deployment server to
update the client. There are only two ways to update the file: 1)
Installation Plan 2) Manually edit the file and correct/add the new ones.

Re: OW database data sources

Tom,

The file that you want to look at is
\\DEPSERVER\B733\client\odbcdatasource.inf. The information in this file
gets updated when you change your data sources while logged into OW on the
deployment server. If you update the DSN's from OW on a fat client,
sometimes this file does not get updated (permissions, etc.) This file is
used at deployment time and is used to update your fat clients and WTS
ODBC's. If your ODBC's are incorrect then this file is the reason why.

Also, if you are doing any special deployments (CD, multitier, etc.) You'll
want to look at the copy of this file and make sure it is up to date. Best
of luck.

Re: OW database data sources

Tom-

When you install a full package to a client the ODBCDatasource.inf file on
the deployment server supplies the ODBC settings. If they need to be
recreated you can delete that file, log in to the planner environment on
the deployment server, launch Database Data Sources and select the System
data source. For each non-Access and non-local data source, open the detail
record then select OK. The Create New Datasource applet will launch, and
the settings you provide will be written to the (newly created)
ODBCDatasource.inf file. If the applet cannot connect to the
library/database you will get an error after completing the settings for
the ODBC data source. This applies equally to FAT clients and terminal
server clients provided the client is installed correctly.

Once the ODBCDatasource.inf is correct, occasionally the settings on
individual machies get hosed so I make a copy of a known good machine's
ODBC registry key and store it on the server so any apparent ODBC flakiness
can be quickly corrected.

I hope this helps !

Regards,
David Silvasi

Could someone explain how and when the ODBC's get updated on FAT and WTS?
We
added several new database data sources on the deployment server and
originally created them with incorrect ODBC info. Since then the ODBC's
have
been corrected on the deployment server, but the ODBC' s keep getting
changed back to the original incorrect ones on the FAT & WTS. I would
appreciate any clues on how to prevent this from happening.

Thank you,
