Archiving Data

Is there a general standard for the amount of time to keep current =
data.
Our system is new enough that we have not yet archived/purged any
transactional data (2 =BD months) and I am starting to get complaints =
of slow
response, particularly during sales order entry. We also send all
transactions to the Sales Ledger, which is becoming very large and slow =
as
well. I realize this is very open, but I'm only looking for a general
answer.

Marshall,

It is basically up to each installation as to how long they keep data. However there is almost always a legal implication as to how long to keep financial and other information. Depending on the rules governing the country/area where the installation is information may be able to be kept outside the information system.

There are also organisational and operational concerns.

As you said, your question is open, so my answer has to be the same. I hope I have helped.
