Advance orders / product allocation

Let me start by saying that we don't currently use JDE for manufacturing but plan to in the future.

Sometimes our customers will order months in advance (e.g. order in July for product required around Christmas). Our products are perishable and won't be produced until closer to the ship date. When the product is produced, we need to be able to look at existing orders and reserve the product so that those orders are filled first.

It may be that the pick process will achieve what we need but I'd like to hear from others who may have a similar process. Basically, we want to reserve the product so that it gets assigned to the orders in the sequence that they were entered.

We're on XE now but are planning to upgrade to 8.9. This function will be included with the 8.9 upgrade.

One sugestions is in 8.9, there is an enhancement
around cross-dock. You can look at the planned
production and hard connect (via the cross-dock
workbench) the inventory planned to be produced (or
purchased or transfered) to the sales order -
reserving it for each specific sales order or detail
line. Have not worked with the application live yet
so can't comment on all of the how-to's.
