Can we manipulate data in PY from DV

Well Known Member
Hi List,

I would like to know if there is any possibility to Add/Delete/Update data into a table in PY environment through an Application / UBE logging into DV environment.

If yes can you please let me know how to go about it.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sunny

Just some thoughts but I have never tried it. You might be able to do it by changing the OCM mappings for certain tables and the ODBC datasources on the PC (for a Fat Client) to point to PY instead of DV.

For an AS400 Fat Client, OBDC sources are stored on the PC. In theory, I can just change the library to PYDATA for the Business Data TEST ODBC source and it should update PY.

For UBEs you may just be able to override the environment it's updating.

OCM, Object Configuration Manager, allows you to point diff objects to diff environments.

Hi Sunny,

For a temp solution you can use the OCM mapping and point your DV table
specs to your PY datasources. This can be done for the entire environment
or as specifically as for just one user.

Or if this is something that you want to do on an ongoing basis you can
create a new environment using the DV Pathcode and the PY Datasources much
the same way that the TEST env uses the TEST (Dev) Data and the PY
pathcode.

Good luck and be careful.

Create an OCM mapping for a particular user/group/*public, though this affect
all applications etc for the selected users..

If you track the Applications that work with the printqueue - you'll notice
that there is an override database taking place within one of the processes.
You can mimic the process to your hearts content.

Thanks for your responces.. Do we have to logout and log back to get the changes come in effect made to the OCM mappings.

Thanks

You can set an UBE to run in one environment against data in a different
environment. There is a white paper that specifically addresses how you do this.
This doesn't require changing any OCM mappings.

Yes I believe that OCM mappings are cached so you would have to log off/on.

I will suggest you to delete Global tables from the fat clients.. It will
make the cahce to be refreshed

Sunny,

I want to add to all other answer that you can do this WITHOUT OCM change if you only want to use table I/O (NER) on this table. Table I/O using "Handle" can access data in another environment without change to OCM.
