EDI

I have just been asked to start looking into EDI and how JDE uses it. Does anyone out there know how/what I need to do to start looking into using EDI for Purchase Orders? We are a B7333 XE SP21 Windows 2000 MS SQL2000 shop. Any direction would be extremely helpful.

Thanks,
Franklin

Hi Franklin - Are you doing inbound Purchase Orders or Outbound Purchase
orders? One item that you will need to look it is the different ways that
you are going to work with your trading partners... is it going to be
EDIFACT, ANSI, XML, and if you have XPI from JDE or an EDI Translating
package.. those would be the first steps. Let me know. thanks Bobby

Thanks,
Franklin

There is EDI information in the OneWorld e-guide documentation (just perform a query search on EDI) and in the knowledge garden. There is (or was) a class geared toward EDI offered by JDE as well.

Bobby,

We really don't know what we are going to do...We will probably use ANSI but don't know anything about XPI from JDE. Is that something else we have to buy or is that part of the standard package? What does XPI do?

Hi Franklin - Normally people will by Gentran (from Sterling Commerce) or
Invois (formerly Harbinger) EDI Translators that work in conjunction with
JDEs. These translators usually pull data from a VAN (or Value Added
Network) and then "translate" it through "maps" into the JDE Files. Now XPI
is a tool that JDE has built. You can use it to do XML type messages in out
and out of JDE, but it is a bolt on and can be quite expensive. That's why
people usually go with the Gentran or Invois way (And I know there are a lot
of other packages out there as well).... Let me know if you need more help.
More than willing to help out where I can. thanks, Bobby
