Network Service Hangs on Shutdown

Hello List,

It seems as of late when i bounce services on my Enterprise Server (Windows 2000 Server SP3) the Network Service always hangs and never shuts down normally. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

XE, Update 6, SP20, Windows 2000 Server SP3

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Hello Dave,

did you stop the jde-queues befre you stoped the jde-network service?
Regards
Herbert

Dave,
I have a client with pretty much the same configuration as yours. Same things happens there. The queue service comes down quickly, the net service hangs.
I never really took the time to seriously look into it. The only thing I noticed is that it is an IPC process that hangs. All others die normally when the net-service is taken down.

If you ever find the cause of this please let us know.

Thanks, Gerd

We are Windows 2000 on SP2 and we have this same issue on occasions.

It started happening after we installed Service Pack 19.1_G1. I can make it happen if I have a user working in an environment and I attempt a Full Package Deployment to the Enterprise Server for that environment.

But on other occasions I have noticed that during the time from the last reboot or stop/start of the services, we had an UBE that had erred out.

I also found that when I go back and don't find and UBEs in Error, I find that we have a Business Object locked. You can check in the P00095. The locked object could be in any of our Environments.

We had an open issue with JDE on this and they never could pin it down.

Queston: the P00095 program. What is that telling me? I have several listings dated several months ago. If I delete these, what happens? The servers have been rebooted many times between the dates listed and today so I'm not sure what I'm seeing.

We too have the queues "hanging" when I try to stop them. JDE hasn't been able to help us either.

Those entries are record locks. Sometimes records get stuck in this file if
the user has an abnormal termination. Our assumption is that, once users log
off, batch subsystems are shut down, and we shut down our Citrix servers for
backup at night, there should be no record locks, so we clear the file at
that time.

We have not experiences any "hang" situations, but we are on a different
platform.

The following is taken from the KG.

OHR-03-0016
To prevent loss of data when two users simultaneously attempt to update the same record in the database, record reservation can be activated. When record reservation is activated for a particular program, only one user at a time can access a record in the table that the program updates. For example, Activate record reservation for the employee master group of programs (see below). User #1 tries to access an employee's record in the Basic Compensation program (P0801CMP) at the same time that another user is updating the employee's salary information in the Basic Compensation program. Since User #2 accessed the employee's record first, User #1 receives an error message that states that User #2 has the employee’s record reserved. User #1 cannot update the employee's record until User #2 saves her changes and closes the program.

Releasing a Reservation
At the Fast Path type P00095 to bring up the Remove Business Object Reservation (P00095) application. This application will be used to cleanup reservations on objects if a users PC goes down. Once the screen is displayed, click Find.

Note: Make sure that the User that is shown is not actively accessing the Order before releasing the reservation.

Dave :

Check that Queue Service is down before stopping Network service.

I have this same problem and I am on SP21 with Win2000 SP4. It happens ever time I shut down the network service.

Thanks,
Melissa

We have a similar problem on one of our sites (sp21 c1, win2k sp3), where the
network refuses to shutdown neatly. It appeared there was a dll locked (I
think it is callbsfn) by one of the kernel processes. This also had the
effect of causing server package deployment to fail due to this lock with
'internal error'. We have now taken to stopping and restarting network and
queue prior to the deployment to ensure it is successful.

Make sure all the killqueue.exe processes have ended before stopping the network service.
